God's Greatest gift

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His  only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

By Pastor Sid Forster

To understand all that this scripture is about will take time and effort on the reader’s part but below is an outline of what we come to understand is the truth about God and what this scripture tells us that Jesus has already done for us. What a very special portion of scripture that reveals some really good news to everyone who believes it.

Gifts are things given without strings attached and usually wrapped in patterned paper, unknown until opened, they are not designed to be repayable and for the most part they are given to show the receiver that they have been thought about kindly, to impress on them that they are important and valuable from the point of view of the giver.

So, God loves the world so much that He gives the world a gift. [Jn.3:16], GOD LOVES YOU! And gives you the same gift. [His Son Jesus] He wants you to know that if you believe in Him, you’ll find out that when you unwrap this gift that there is so much more than you imagined when you trust in Jesus, this is a gift of life where God has taken away all the opportunities of failure and heartache and provided a hope that will not disappoint you. If you don’t choose Jesus, then by default you’ve chosen death. Jesus is life whereas everything else is death and God does not want you to perish. [2Pet.3:9] God knows how this could finish for you and wants to give you the choice of accepting Jesus along with the life He offers and not choosing death. [Deut.30:19]

2Pet.3:9

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Deut.30:19

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live”

Jn.3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten

Son Jesus. God’s love is nothing like human natural love, it is faithful and everlasting and does not change through circumstances or conditions that happen in life. God is love! [1John 4v8]

The true life of love comes from God and is both an attribute of God and a true description of His being. God’s love to mankind is unconditional, it cannot be earned by good works and no one is able to stand equal to Him. [Eph2v9] God in His love will always be looking for your best interests because He loves you and has plans for you in your life as you learn to trust Him and put your hand into His hand for guidance. [Jer.29:11] The Father sent His Son to give His life for the world and everyone in it in, a once for all sacrifice to take the penalty for sin.

1John 4:7-8

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

Eph.2:8-9

“For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Jer.29:11

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

JESUS THE SON OF GOD WAS BORN TO DIE

2000 years ago, Jesus was born of a virgin, this baby grew up in this world amongst us till He reached 30 years of age when He began His ministry. Jesus went around first century Israel proclaiming the kingdom of God. [Matt.9:35] Jesus was different to all the other prophets and teachers of that day that Israel had heard before, His message encouraged forgiveness and healing to all who would believe in Him and what He said. [Acts.10:38] God sacrificed His Son for us, so that we, the guilty could walk free. He was blameless yet took the blame for all our wrongs, He was perfect and pure straight from heaven without a sinful nature so that through His sacrifice a payment for sin could be paid and the cost of justice met in full. [1Cor.15:3]

Matt. 9:35

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”

Acts 10:38

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him”

1Cor. 15:3

“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,”

that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life

ONLY BELIEVE!

There were rules in the Old Testament that needed to be obeyed in order to receive God’s blessing, when you failed to meet those requirements you would have to sacrifice an animal for your failure. You would acquire the necessary animal that atoned for your wrongdoing and take it to the priest who sacrificed the animal on your behalf to atone for your mistake, the blood of that animal was sprinkled on the altar which in God’s eyes covered over your wrongdoing, making you once again acceptable and in right standing with God. [Lev.14:19] There could not be forgiveness for anyone without the shedding of blood, it was the blood that paid the debt. [Heb.9:22]

EVERY SIN HAD TO BE PAID FOR WITH BLOOD

The problem was that man was always missing the mark, always making mistakes because the 10 commandments were so hard to keep so the temple became a blood bath because of all the animals that had to sacrificed so that man could stay connected to God. How could this slaughter come to an end? Jesus came and brought with Him a new way of coming to God, a different way in which God could remove the sin problem once and for all and provide anyone who would believe could have all the benefits of forgiveness and freedom from death forever. Jesus was going to take the sin of the world [Jn.1:29] by becoming sin’s final sacrifice and making a way for every man to connect with God if they chose too.  [Heb.10:12-14]

Lev. 14:19

“Then the priest shall offer the sin offering and make atonement for him who is to be cleansed from his uncleanness. Afterward he shall kill the burnt offering. And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. So, the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean.”

Heb. 9:22

“And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”

John 1:29

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Heb.10:12–14

“12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

DON’T PERISH! ACCEPT GOD’S GIFT AND UNWRAP IT!

No more animals sacrificed as Jesus is the final sacrifice for everyone who will believe, its His blood that has been shed on behalf of all mankind so that the ONLY qualification necessary to be acceptable to God is to believe in what Jesus has done for us. [Heb.10:10] We only have to believe and put our life in His hands for our future, to trust Him and Him only. [Jn.6:28-29]

God is offering us eternal life [everlasting life] and it needs to be pointed out that neither of these gifts are a length of days to be experienced after you die, it is a quality of life that God is wanting to give us now which is to be experienced while we are still living on a daily basis when we give our lives to Jesus. [Jn.10:10]

We have to choose to want this life, that comes when we accept the truth of what Jesus has for us in His death, burial and resurrection that we qualify for this life. God wants us to choose Him! [Deut.30:19]

GOD WANT US TO CHOOSE HIM!

Choosing Jesus is not following a set of rules ritualistically, it isn’t fighting for God’s acceptance, it’s understanding that God loves us and choosing God because He knows best how to live right and prosper body, soul and spirit through our lives. Jesus wants us to know Him and trust Him all the time, to be in a relationship with Him and enjoy all the benefits of having God involved in your life [Jn.17:3]

Heb.10:10

“By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

John 6:28-29

“Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”

“Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

Jn.10:10

‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Jn.17:3

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
